What is the project about?
Fronteira Esquecida Limia-Lima is a project aimed at promoting the natural and cultural resources of the Limia-Lima river and its surroundings. The main objective is to develop a joint management and promotion structure which will enhance the touristic use of the area. This involves actions designed to identify, enhance and promote the natural, cultural and landscape heritage of the areas surrounding the river in a coordinated manner.
The project is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Interreg VA Spain-Portugal programme (POCTEP) 2014-2020.
Project objectives
To relaunch the Limia-Lima river area as a quality and sustainable tourism destination, the following specific objectives have been set
- Initiatives and actions for the coordinated management of tourism resources and itineraries based on common environmental and cultural resources and the joint promotion of the cooperation area.
- Study and documentation of the cultural heritage of the geographical context within the cooperation area.
- Actions related to the enhancement of environmental tourism and the creation of specialised international networks in the sector.
- Creation of a distinctive tourism brand to turn the identity components of the border into opportunities to develop this competitive advantage.
- Development of a common offer of cultural and tourist products and services based on the local characteristics of the different territories.

Cross-border cooperation to promote resource efficiency, risk prevention and environmental conservation
Tourism potential
To develop and promote the tourism potential of the natural areas around the Limia-Lima river cross-border area.
Foreseen activities
LIMIA-LIMA RIVER HERITAGE
Identification of the different aspects that are part of the tangible and intangible heritage around the Limia-Lima river, in order to develop a common historical narrative and set the basis for the joint management and promotion activities of the Limia-Lima river tourist destination.
ENHANCEMENT OF THE LIMIA-LIMA RIVER NATURAL AND CULTURAL AREA
Development of common actions in the territory in terms of qualification, promotion and signposting and the design of routes and activities.
LIMIA-LIMA RIVER TOURISM NETWORK
Development of a Cross-Border Management Structure for the coordinated management of resources, services and tourist itineraries with heritage, cultural and scenic value and for the joint commercialisation and promotion of the cross-border destination around the Limia-Lima River and to support its future sustainability.
LIMIA-LIMA 4.0
Promotion of the Limia-Lima tourist destination through the use of new technologies (information on areas of value, promotion of the destination in networks, etc.) to ensure constant interaction with visitors
