In the framework of the project “Fronteira Esquecida Limia-Lima”, financed by the INTERREG Spain-Portugal programme, an initiative was carried out to promote tourism in the region. The Fam Trip, which took place on 22 March 2023 in Viana do Castelo, aimed to raise awareness and consolidate the Lima region as a tourist destination of excellence, especially with regard to the Lima River and the various nautical experiences it offers.
The Fam Trip programme focused on the tourism resources associated with nautical activities and was attended by delegations from Germany, France and the Netherlands. The day started with a warm reception at the Duotone Pro Centre headquarters, followed by exciting nautical activities at the beautiful Cabedelo Beach. Afterwards, participants enjoyed a delicious lunch at the prestigious Aquário Restaurant.
The cultural part of the Fam Trip included a guided visit to the impressive Gil Eannes Hospital Ship, as well as a stop at Monte de Santa Lucia and its sanctuary. For accommodation, participants checked into the charming Hotel Fábrica do Chocolate, where they also enjoyed a delicious dinner. The evening continued with an exciting networking between journalists and entrepreneurs, promoting interaction and collaboration between tourism professionals.
This was not the first time a Fam Trip was held in the region. After the success obtained in November 2022, with the participation of journalists, bloggers and influencers, it was decided to strengthen and reinforce the results of the project with a second edition. On this occasion, tour operators and journalists from several European countries were invited to showcase the region’s natural and cultural resources and affirm it as a tourist destination of excellence.
The foreign journalists and tour operators who participated in the Fam Trip were impressed by the quality of the region’s environmental and heritage resources, as well as by the varied gastronomic offer and the exciting nautical activities available. During the event, they had the opportunity to establish contacts with local entrepreneurs and tour operators through business meetings with Duotone, XLife, Montes de Laboreiro, Tobogã, Explore Iberia and TimeOut.
With this successful initiative, it is expected to attract a greater flow of tourists to the Lima region and to spread the experiences and tourist destinations it offers. The “Fronteira Esquecida Limia-Lima” project demonstrates the commitment of Spain and Portugal to promote sustainable tourism and enhance the natural and cultural resources of the region at any time of the year.
