Destino Rio Limia-Lima River to be promoted at Intur 2022

The Limia-Lima River Destination has been promoted at Intur 2022, the International Fair of Inland Tourism held between 18 and 20 November in Valladolid.

The Limia-Lima River Destination is being promoted in the territory of the Fronteira Esquecida project, a project co-financed 75% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the INTERREG V A Spain-Portugal (POCTEP) 2014-2020 programme.

The overall objective of the “Fronteira Esquecida” project is to enhance the natural and cultural resources of the Limia-Lima River and its surroundings, and on this basis to create and develop a joint management and promotion structure that enhances the tourist use of the area, developing a series of joint actions that promote the Limia-Lima River Destination as a sustainable quality destination.

In addition to the promotion at INTUR, this destination was also promoted through two familiarisation trips (“fam trip”) with Galician and Portuguese retailers and wholesalers from 26 to 28 October and from 2 to 4 November. On these trips they were able to get to know the Limia-Lima River Destination, visiting the points of interest, tasting its gastronomy and taking part in sporting activities in the area.

In addition, the destination was present at a tourism seminar (“workshop”) held in Fundão (Castelo Branco – Portugal) from 14 to 16 October, which made it possible to present the tourism offer of the Limia-Lima River Destination to Portuguese travel agencies, thus highlighting the cross-border nature of the project and its territory. At the end of November, another tourism seminar will be held in Benidorm, from 25th to 27th November, where the aim is to promote the destination to other Spanish agencies.

The Limia-Lima River Destination is formed by the regions of A Limia and Baixa Limia, in the Galician territory, and the Municipal Chambers of Arcos de Valdevez, Ponte da Barca, Ponte de Lima and Viana do Castelo, in the Portuguese territory. From its source in Monte Talariño (Sarreaus) to its mouth in Viana do Castelo, the visitor has the archaeological site of Aquis Querquennis (Bande), the Visigothic Church of Santa Comba de Bande, the Monastery of Bon Xesús de Trandeiras (Xinzo de Limia), the Interpretation Centres of Ponte de Lima or the Citanîa de Santa Luzia (Viana del Castelo), among other places of interest.
