Biodiversity in the Limia River basin

In the library section (https://fronteiraesquecida.eu/biblioteca-3/) is available the “Study and proposals for the improvement of native populations of salmonids and cyprinids in the Limia river basin“.

This study, carried out during the year 2020 in the watercourses of the Limia river basin, has allowed us to confirm the presence of the bermejuela (Achondrostoma arcasii) in some of the rivers and streams of the region.

This small cyprinid fish is protected by the Habitats Directive and was suspected to be extinct in the basin as it had not been detected in surveys carried out in recent years.

This is therefore great news for the biodiversity of the region and demonstrates the good state of conservation of some of its watercourses.
