Empanada de Forquellas and Cachena cow feast
Empanada de Forquellas and Cachena cow feast
The full name of this party is “Exaltation of the Empanada de Forquellas and the Carne de Cachena da Serra do Quinxo”. This tribute to gastronomic exaltation aims to highlight a breed of cow that was in danger of extinction: the Cachena breed. A cow of great rusticity and very adapted to the unique granitic formations of the aforementioned mountain range, grazing at an altitude of almost 1200 meters. A forquella is a type of sausage made with pork, garlic, onion, pepper and pumpkin inside a small intestine. A typical local product that would be kept alive thanks to the residents of Entrimo, who, before this festival, already celebrated it in their homes in times of slaughter. The party, which changed from May to the first weekend of June, is held in a playful environment always animated by traditional music and activities for all ages. In 2019 it was time for the 16th edition, before the pandemic limited 2020 and 2021 editions. The venue for the party is the sports hall of A Terrachá, in the capital of the municipality of Entrimo, with a capacity for more than 800 people. The event is completed with traditional products and handicraft shows.
