The municipality of Ponte de Lima has completed the works of improvement and conditioning of the ecovia of the Limia river that links the municipalities of Viana do Castelo, Ponte de Lima and Arcos de Valdevez, on the right bank of the Lima river, and on the left bank, linking the municipalities of Viana do Castelo, Ponte de Lima and Ponte da Barca.
The execution of this action is part of the Fronteira Esquecida project, which has made it possible to improve one of the most important infrastructures for the promotion of leisure and nature tourism associated with the Lima river resource.
The impact of this project goes beyond the perspective of its physical location, promoting a fundamental interconnection that allows the networking of the set of riverside eco-routes created, and of the logic of its design and promotion insofar as it is a tourist infrastructure of supra-municipal scale and impact that tends to promote the valorisation and sustainable use of a natural resource, of which the Lima river stands out.
This strategy is now reinforced by the cross-border cooperation inherent in the Fronteira Esquecida project, taking into account the internal potential of the Limia-Lima destination for different forms of ecotourism, cycling and hiking.
These are elements of strong attraction in the region, which is why sets of important facilities and infrastructures associated with nature tourism were reinforced as an important strategic tourism product in exponential growth that has brought a high number of tourists to the municipalities.
